ITINERARY
Day 1 Barcelona, Spain Upon arrival in Barcelona, check into the stylish hotel, located just steps from the Gothic quarter. Meet the Spain Adventures Crew this evening at the welcome reception of classic Catalan tapas.
Day 2 Barcelona Immerse yourself in the magic of architect Antoni Gaudí this morning. Venture into the Sagrada Familia, another worldly cathedral begun in 1882 and not yet finished. Wander along the undulating terraces of Parc Güell and examine Gaudí’s imaginative animal sculptures and mosaics. After lunch near the port, be a participant in life on Las Ramblas, the city’s lively pedestrian streets lined with flower vendors, parakeet cages and cafes. Experience the passion of flamenco during dinner at the famous Tablao Cordobes.
Day 3 Montserrat/Barcelona
Set out for the Benedictine Monastery of
Montserrat, a medieval sanctuary nestled in the mountains outside Barcelona. Spend the day learning about the mysterious “Black Virgin” Morenata statue. This afternoon we tour a cava cellar and sample cava, Catalonia’s celebrated sparkling wine.
Day 4 La Mercè Festival Our art historian will take you on a private tour of the Museu Picasso this morning. The artist spent a good part of his youth in Barcelona and the vast collection here showcases his early periods. Then join in the celebration of the Fiesta de la Mercè, honoring the Virgin of Mercy, patron
saint of Barcelona. Catch the excitement as you find yourself in the middle of
musical performances, sporting events, and a parade of giant wooden puppets.
This evening is free to watch the amazing fireworks display.
Day 5 Barcelona/Cadaqués Head north along the Costa Brava to Cadaqués, located on a peninsula at the edge of the mountains. This afternoon, get acquainted with this whitewashed fishing village and its charming port. Gather for a seaside dinner at sunset.
Day 6 Port de la Selva/Cadaqués Explore the imposing monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, a Romanesque gem that dates back to the ninth century. Then we’re off to the picturesque fishing town of Port de la Selva.
Day 7 Perelada/Cadaqués Step back in time in the medieval village of Perelada. With its maze of narrow lanes set against the backdrop of the Pyrenees. This afternoon, sample local vintages at the magnificent Castillo Perelada. Celebrate this adventure at a farewell dinner tonight.
Day 8 Barcelona Transfer to the airport early this morning for your return flight.
