Photographers are Welcome too!
Galicia, one of the 17 autonomous regions of Spain is located to the far west of the Iberian Peninsula. It is surrounded by both the Atlantic Ocean and the Cantabrian Sea and is known for its landscapes of lush green forests, wooded valleys, coastline and lighthouses.
It is a mystical land with its Spanish and Celtic traditions and a history that offers a treasure trove of natural wonders to explore. The spectacular cliffs of Costa da Morte, the amazing Las Catedrales beach with its unique shaped rock formations or the canyons of the River Sil and Mino. It is the final destination for the Way of St. James, which ends in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Santiago de Compostela. We cannot talk about Galicia with mentioning the exquisite sea food here. Pulpo (octopus), lobsters, king prawns, scallops, mussels, are brought in from the 1660 kilometers of coastline, so you know that you are in for a culinary adventure of a lifetime.
Accommodations:
Your home for the week is a beautifully restored manor house in a village near historic Santiago de Compostela. This 300 year old family home has been lovingly restored to feature all the comforts you’ll need. And their dinners are culinary events each day.
Painting:
Oil paint and watercolors with a local "Gallego”…. professional painter. Workshops include demonstrations by the artist, individual instruction and critique, local lore, history, and an insider's introduction to “Lush” Galicia.
Gastronomy:
Breakfast is included at the manor house each day before we leave for our painting adventures. Lunch is on your own. You may order a pic-nic lunch to take along for a small cost or pick a wonderful little bar and enjoy the local color.
Dinner is always a wonderful experience here. Your dietary requirements will be met as much as possible, and it gives us great pleasure to say that everything you will enjoy is locally sourced.
And just for fun:
A group exhibition, open to the public (participation is optional) – To be held at a local art studio.
Sketch with the artist each morning, and then have your afternoons free to wander.
The group will come together with the days’ work for a show-and-tell each evening after dinner.
Journey to Finisterre, “lands’ end” and capture the most western point of Europe, the point of embarkation for explorers traveling to the New World and along the way stop in charming fishing villages and paint the lighthouse at the end of the world.
Capture the epic rock formations and caves of Las Catedrales beach and three of the most important lighthouses in Spain.
Spend time in the city of Santiago de Compostela, where all the pilgrim’s traveling on the Camino de Santiago (link to our Camino) will end their journey across Spain.
One of our days will be spent on a vineyard, where the colors of autumn will please every artist.
Historic architecture, charming fishing villages, grand plazas, light houses and beautiful sunsets are all part of this adventure.
